Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report: “Mesothelioma in Australia”
The AIHW manages the Australian Mesothelioma Register (AMR), which collects information on new cases of mesothelioma diagnosed from 1 July 2010.
The Institute’s latest report was released on 13 November 2018. Some of the statistical findings include:
- 710 new cases of mesothelioma in Australia were diagnosed in 2017
- On average, 2 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in Australia each day
- Males are 4 times as likely to be diagnosed than females
- Qld recorded 166 new cases of mesothelioma, the second highest behind WA
- To date the highest number of new cases reported was in 2014, with 770 cases reported to the AMR
